The swish set have just one thing to talk about these days - the upcoming marriage of Mallika, granddaughter of industrialist GV Krishna Reddy and Siddharth Reddy, son of the infrastructure and realty king, Syam Prasad Reddy. And why not? After all the whole town was taken by total surprise when superstar Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif were flown down to shimmy to "Sheila Ki Jawani" at the couple's engagement do! And needless to say, speculation on which star will perform at the sangeet is creating buzz in the city.
The wedding, to be held in June, is being touted as the biggest that India has seen in recent times. Much like the engagement which had a Bollywood tadka, the sangeet, wedding and reception will have a fair share of tinseltown biggies attending, since the GVKs are a hit with the entire B-Town.
While Hema Malini is expected to put up a classical dance recital at the sangeet, we hear that K Jo will be the emcee for the reception and Shah Rukh Khan will perform. Meanwhile, another rumor doing the rounds is that J Lo too is likely to be flown down to perform.
The soft-spoken, affable GVK Reddys first made news when they sent out wedding invitations that went on to become the talk of the town for their class and grandeur. The invitations ranged from a simple bottle of wine tagged with the invites for sangeet, wedding and reception, to crystal boxes that weighed a couple of kilos, complete with goodies. While Mallika's wedding card is said to be a box of chocolates emblazoned with the invite, we hear that some invites came with a designer saree (talk is that orders for these sarees were placed with Sabyasachi, Anamika Khanna and Abha Dalmia for a select few).
With news trickling in that Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla are styling the entire wedding, Hyderabad Times got in touch with them; but they declined to reveal the details, though a source close to the family confirmed the news. "Some pieces have been sent out," was all a source from their office revealed.
We hear that a posse of designers is involved in the whole event with names like Rohit Bal, Shantanu and Nikhil and Tarun Tahiliani doing the rounds. When contacted, Nikhil confirmed that they were designing the groom's outfit for the reception - "a bandgala teamed with a jodhpuri, in a color palette that's masculine and exudes boldness" is what they have lined up for the groom. He goes on to add, "Siddharth is so good-looking that he looks like a model in the outfit." For the groom's sister Sindhuri, S&N is designing "a pink gown that looks straight out of a fairytale", which she is likely to wear for the cocktails.
The names of Hyderabadi designers Shravan Kumar and Anand Kabra too figure on the groom's list. According to a close relative of the groom, Shravan is designing the groom's outfits as well as those of his relatives for the "Pellikoduku" event. "When contacted, designer Shravan, who of late has been making news with his outfits for the weddings of Allu Arjun and NTR Jr, said, "I can only say that they will be wearing traditional clothes mostly in Mangalagiri and Proddatur silk." The groom's sister we are told will be wearing a half-saree with a Kanchi lehenga and net odni. Designer Anand Kabra confirmed that he is designing an outfit for the groom's sister Sindhura but refused to divulge any information as the family were "old clients" of his.
